"After all the pressure in the show, the only thing you want is to hear a bid," says Rosa Clandestino designer and Fashion Star contestant Silvia Arguello.
And in tonight's episode of Fashion Star, Silvia heard it. After a tense and time-crushed challenge, Silvia, who classifies herself as a perfectionist, took home to big bid. How big, you ask? The buyers from Saks thought her palazzo pant jumpsuit was chic, sexy, and, much to Silvia's delight, worth a monster $200,000 check.
Let's be real—the NBC design show has been sweet on clothing designer Silvia Arguello. Macy's and Express raved over her dramatic pants, and in the "Buyer's Choice" episode, they specifically asked for another pair to snatch up. But that's not what Silvia wanted to do.
"Express and Macy’s asked for a pair of pants, where as Saks just said go for the black and white trend. In the beginning, I must confess that I thought I should just go for the black and white trend and target Saks—just because I just did a pair of pants. But at the same time, this is an opportunity to target all three buyers. So why would I miss that opportunity?" says Silvia.

Silvia, who's mentor is John Varvatos, says that while her pieces look relatively simple, they have multiple components, tons of patterns, and are super hard to construct. "I had a lot of issues with the jumpsuit because of the timing. My pieces are complicated," she admits.
So for those of you who think Silvia regularly throws together a Saks stunner in, like, 36 hours, just know that it takes a heck of a lot longer than that. If the tiniest thing is off on one of her garments, Silvia doesn't let it go. It's try, try again until that article of clothing is basically perfection. Oh! And the whole inspiration and reminiscing on influences thing? That gets pushed to the side during one of these showdowns.
