Dubai Police Add Lamborghini Aventador Patrol Car
DUBAI POLICE OFFICE / HANDOUT / EPA
The new Lamborghini Aventador which is used by Dubai Police Department, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 11 April 2013.
A 700 horsepower patrol car may be very useful for high-speed car chases — or maybe it just perfectly complements the opulent display of wealth that has become Dubai’s forte.
The latest addition to the emirate’s collection of glamorous possessions is a slick white-and-green Lamborghini Aventador for its police force,
reported Yahoo Autos
. The announcement was made through the force’s twitter feed,
@DubaiPoliceHQ
, which sparked off a frenzy of tweets with the hash tag
#OnlyinDubai
.
According to Emirates 24/7
, Dubai’s police force cited enhanced patrolling abilities to justify its purchase of the $550, 000 dollar police car, while
7 Days in Dubai quoted
a director of the police force saying that the aesthetic appeal of the car would help illustrate the city’s class. The car has been customized for highway patrol,
reported Emirates 24/7
. According to recent police figures, 15% of traffic fines issued in Dubai every day are for driving at speeds in excess of 130 m.p.h.,
reported Sky News
. The Aventador can hits speeds of up to 216 m.p.h.
Dubai Police announced on 11 April they added the Italian-made sports car to their police vehicles, apparently to boost their ability in high-speed chases.
The Lamborghini carries a customized license plate — the number 8 — and is already on the streets, although as a two-seater it’s not going to be carting off many suspects,
reported 7 Days in Dubai
— much to the disappointment of this
tweeter, “Officer, please cuff me in the Aventador and throw away the keys.”
